The Batam City Government (Pemkot) through the Batam City Culture and Tourism Office (Disbudpar) continues to strive to develop halal tourism in its area.
Head of the Batam City Disbudpar, Ardiwinata said that his party continues to coordinate with related agencies and strengthen relations with tourism industry players, such as travel agents, hotels and restaurants.
“To support the development of halal tourism, especially in the culinary sector, one of the Batam City Government’s efforts is to provide halal certificates for MSMEs through the Free Halal Certificate (Sehati) program,” said Ardiwinata, Sunday, November 17, 2024.
He said that improvements in terms of attractions and amenities also need to be made to increase the existence of halal tourism in Batam and in Indonesia in general.
“We don’t do direct branding, regarding halal tourism in Batam. But this is classified by tourists who visit,” explained Ardiwinata.
“For example, culinary tourism, they will definitely see whether the restaurant they visit has halal certification and others,” continued Ardiwinata.
Ardiwinata added, Disbudpar also welcomed the award that Indonesia again won as the best Muslim-friendly tourist destination in 2024 from the Mastercard Crescent Rating Global Muslim Travel Index (GMTI).
According to Ardiwinata, this achievement must be maintained in the future, namely by developing integrated Muslim-friendly tourism that is well implemented by the central and regional governments.
“Batam already has religious tourism destinations such as the Sultan Mahmud Riayat Syah Mosque, the Great Mosque of Raja Hamidah and the Tanjak Mosque.
Meanwhile, in natural tourist destinations, shopping tourism such as malls, business actors have provided places of worship such as prayer rooms for visitors,” he said.
